Re-Purposing Sections of Streets
Established in 2016, since then a regular meet-up brunch takes place every third Sunday of the month.
Local/Regional administration, citizens, academia, City planners, others...
Schützenplatz is slowly transforming a 1,300m2 intersection and parking area, into a local pedestrian square. Since 2016 with a "Real-Experiment" approach, is recovering every year a couple more parking spots for people. At the moment the project takes place in 17 out of 49 parking spots from the intersection, adding this way features to the square. It all started with a parklet, then an urban garden was added, later on some trees, afterwards a stage and more benches. The project is meant to stay as long as the administration starts the permanent transformation into a pedestrian Schützenplatz.
To recover public space by removing parking spots, adding greenery and creating space for children, art and culture; strengthening the community and raising awareness and discussion about public space. This way the streets are safer and improves liveability in the intersection, working as a demonstration in order to generate permanent changes.
